Step back into Truckee's lumbering past on this guided, self-driven tour hosted by the Truckee Donner Railroad Society. Explore the former Hobart Mills company town and learn how the Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber Company harvested and transported timber through an extensive narrow-gauge railroad system in the early 1900s.
The tour includes several historic stops, a two-mile hike to view railroad trestles, and expert interpretation of the region's logging and railroad history. Participants will travel between sites in their own vehicles while guides share stories, photographs, and insights into one of Truckee's most important industries.
A high-clearance AWD or 4WD vehicle is recommended. Bring sturdy walking shoes, layered clothing, water, lunch, and sun protection.
