Ready to take your backcountry knowledge to the next level? The Beta is the second session in the free Avalanche Education Series hosted by Tahoe Mountain Sports and Alibi Ale Works, focusing on how to read terrain, understand conditions, and make smarter decisions in the backcountry.
This session covers the building blocks of decision-making—how to assess zones based on weather and snowpack, identify natural warning signs, and recognize common terrain traps. You’ll also learn key logistics such as skin track etiquette, safe parking, and how to be a good steward of Truckee-Tahoe’s backcountry community.
Speakers include:
- Richard Bothwell, Author of Light Tours of Tahoe by Beacon Guidebooks
- Alex Michon, Guide for AlpenGlow Expeditions
- Anthony Cupaiuolo, Tahoe Backcountry Alliance
Doors open at 6:00pm—arrive early to grab a beer and snacks before the 6:30pm presentation. There will also be a raffle benefiting the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance, supporting education and advocacy for safe, responsible recreation across the region.
Raffle prizes from event sponsors include gear from Ortovox, Flylow, Dynafit, PT Revolution, Smartwool, and more.
