Transportation & Access FAQ
How do I get to the 4th of July Parade in Downtown Truckee?
Free event shuttles serve Prosser, Glenshire, Sierra Meadows, Donner Lake, Tahoe Donner, and Northstar from 8am to 2pm. TART Truckee Local bus service does not operate during parade hours. Donner Pass Road will be closed from Truckee High School to Bridge Street and Church Street from 9am to 12:30pm, and I-80 Central Truckee onramps and exits will be fully closed during that time.
Parking near the parade is extremely limited. No street parking will be available along the parade route. Paid parking in Downtown Truckee is waived during parade hours, and a large public lot with EV chargers is available near the Artists Lofts.
Biking is one of the easiest ways to get downtown. Use Truckee’s paved trails and bike lanes and take advantage of the free Bike Valet provided by the Truckee Trails Foundation.
How do I get to the Donner Lake fireworks at West End Beach?
The easiest option is the free express shuttle from Truckee High School to West End Beach, which runs from 3pm to midnight. The three eastern parking lots at Truckee High School are open for park-and-ride and have porta potties and trash nearby. The shuttle does not make additional stops along the way.
Limited paid parking is available at Donner Memorial State Park for $10, but it is expected to fill by mid-morning. Shuttle use is strongly recommended.
Can I take the Truckee High School shuttle to Donner Lake docks or Donner Memorial State Park?
No. The Truckee High School shuttle is an express route to West End Beach only and will not stop at Donner Lake docks or Donner Memorial State Park. For getting around the Donner Lake area, use Truckee BCycle.

TART Connect is Truckee’s free on-demand shuttle service. It runs from 6:30am to midnight and offers point-to-point rides around town. Expect longer wait times during the holiday weekend.
Can I bike to the parade or fireworks?
Yes, and it is often one of the easiest ways to get around. For the parade, you can use Truckee’s paved trails and bike lanes and take advantage of the free Bike Valet provided by the Truckee Trails Foundation. BCycle e-bikes are also available throughout town and along Donner Lake.

- Eastbound offramp to Donner Pass Road at Coldstream
- Westbound Donner Pass Road at Coldstream Roundabout beginning after the fireworks and remaining in effect until the area clears

You can, but parking is limited and fills quickly. No street parking is allowed on the parade route, and parking near Donner Lake is especially tight for fireworks. A large public parking lot with EV chargers is available near the Artists Lofts for parade access. Paid parking at Donner Memorial State Park is available for $10, but it is expected to fill by mid-morning.
What is the easiest way to get around on the 4th of July?
The easiest way to get around on the 4th is to leave your car parked and use the free shuttles, bike infrastructure, and local transit options.
Truckee’s 4th of July is one of the busiest days of the year, and traffic, road closures, and limited parking can quickly slow down your plans. Shuttles, biking, and walking are often the fastest and least stressful ways to move between events.

What should I know about boating and cold water safety?
Truckee and Lake Tahoe waters are fed by snowmelt, which means they stay cold even in summer. Weather can also shift quickly at elevation.
