Most outdoor rinks typically operate from mid-November through March, weather permitting. The South Tahoe Ice Arena offers year-round indoor skating.
Do I need to bring my own skates?
All rinks offer skate rentals, but you're welcome to bring your own. Rental prices typically range from $10-20, and some rinks include skate rental in the admission price.
Are there options for beginners or children?
Absolutely! All rinks cater to beginners with rentals and open skating. The Truckee Ice Rink offers specific beginner lessons, including Parent & Tot sessions for children ages 3-6.
What should I wear for ice skating?
Dress in warm, layered clothing that allows movement. Waterproof pants are recommended in case of falls. Don't forget gloves or mittens and thick socks. Helmets are available at most locations for beginners or children.
Are there food options available at the skating rinks?
Most rinks offer snack bars or are near restaurants. The Northstar rink is surrounded by dining options in the village, and Truckee Ice Rink has a snack bar with hot chocolate and other treats.
Are there special events at the ice rinks?
Yes! Look for themed skate nights, hockey games, broomball tournaments, and ice skating exhibitions, especially during the holidays. Everline Resort features Disco Skating nights on select weekends.
