When you’re in a winter wonderland, you have to spend a day sledding and playing in the snow! Read this blog for the best places to go sledding, build a snowman, or have an epic snowball fight in Truckee.
There are seven premier ski resorts within a half hour drive of Truckee. Sign the little ones up for a ski or snowboard lesson to get the fundamentals while you take to the slopes or enjoy a relaxing apres on the deck.
Rent or buy snowshoes or cross country skis from a Truckee outdoor gear shop then start exploring. Enjoy groomed trails at Truckee-Tahoe nordic resorts or get off the beaten path on winter trails.
Lace up your skates and have fun together as a family at the Truckee Ice Rink. The rink offers public skate, ice skate rentals, lessons, hockey, broomball, ice dancing, and more!
Skate in the heart of the Northstar Village! The rink is open to the public and free to use, with ice skate rentals available. Grab dinner in the Village then relax by the cozy fire pit and watch the kids skate.
Summer and fall are the times to have fun on dirt trails or in the water! Beaches, parks, and pools are open and the weather is great to get outdoors.
Staying in a mountain home? There may be facilities available to you through your rental.
This 12 acre day use beach, located at the west end of Donner Lake, has tons of amenities and is supervised by American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards. Kayak and paddleboard rentals, horseshoe pits, play areas, boat storage, picnic & BBQ areas, beach volleyball, tennis courts, and concessions. Opens May 29.
Want to relax by a beautiful alpine lake? Check out the 37 public piers on the north shore of Donner Lake, free and open to the public on a first come first serve basis. They’re a great spot for a picnic, launching a paddleboard, swimming, or simply soaking up the sun. The piers are very popular in the summer so go early or visit midweek or off-peak times.
From the Truckee River Regional Park, you can easily hop on the Legacy Trail, a scenic paved path that connects Truckee to Glenshire, for an easy bike ride or walk. At the park, there are tennis courts, ballfields, an ampitheater, kids playground, community garden, and the Chief Truckee lawn.
Kids will love gaining mountain bike skills with confidence at this approachable bike park. There’s something for everyone, and tons of park features including a pump track, dirt jumps, flow lines, cross country loop, and drop zone. It’s free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
Roll up and enjoy this free skate park, located in the Truckee River Regional Park. Features include fun, flowy bowls, a small rail, ramps and ledges. No bikes allowed, check out the Truckee Bike Park instead!
