Mountain Cuisine

Truckee is a hub for mountain cuisine and home to a wide variety of restaurants. Foodies love the vibrant dining scene where local, organic foods and California fresh inspired menus are easy to find.  But don’t be fooled, you’ll find sophisticated dining and fine California wines from the Napa and Sonoma regions (3 hours drive) with a laid back vibe. Truckee’s casual, family-friendly atmosphere is true to the spirit of the mountains - welcoming from trail to table.  

Bar of America

Here’s a bustling spot with a history that goes back to the 1800s. The historical building now houses Bar of America, a vibrant restaurant and popular hangout for locals and visitors alike. It’s known for delicious food, flowing libations, and live music… a recipe for fun times. The American-fare menu has a little bit of everything, from Fish & Chips to Riskey Whiskey Rib Eye to Campfire S’mores.

COMO

Everything in this hip space delights the senses, from the vibrant murals on the wall to the delicious handmade tortillas. This casual joint serves elevated Mexican food with incredible craft cocktails and tasty tacos when you’re in the mood for a quick bite. Dine outside and watch the happening street scene.

Cottonwood Restaurant  & Bar

Cottonwood Restaurant & Bar is perched on a hilltop overlooking downtown Truckee, an amazing scene, especially at night when the town is lit and transcontinental trains chug by. Come for the string of lights, patio view and stay for the menu, which includes steaks, pasta, seafood and vegetarian dishes, and family-style options for a crowd. Inside the historical bustling, saddle up to a bustling bar amidst old fashioned ski gear and photographs on wooden walls. 

Drunken Monkey Sushi

It all starts with the freshest fish possible which arrives daily from the same suppliers as San Francisco’s most revered sushi restaurants. Then comes the magic as Drunken Monkey Sushi chefs craft Asian tapas and sushi with local, organic ingredients. Pair with their unique selection of Japanese beer, sake, and innovative cocktails and you’re in for a treat.

Great Gold

Great Gold adds a metro vibe to our dining collection. Brandon Kirksey, a San Francisco chef of 20+ years hailing from nearby Nevada City, creates handmade pizza, pasta and modern American Italian home to the mountains. Great Gold offers made-from-scratch dishes using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. 

The Lodge Restaurant & Pub

In the heart of Tahoe Donner, near hundreds of mountain home rentals, The Lodge Restaurant & Pub offers a bistro-style menu with organic meats and locally grown produce. The bar is a happening spot to chat with locals or catch a game, while the quieter restaurant and covered patio invite you to relax and savor a delicious meal as you look out at the Tahoe Donner Golf Course lush green runways.

Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats

A cornerstone of Truckee’s Historic Downtown, Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats is a local and visitor favorite for its casual atmosphere, elegant menu and music. Here, you’ll find farm-fresh, seasonal dishes and the perfect craft cocktails. And on the weekends, live music brings the place to life with critically-praised, nationally-touring Jazz, Americana, Soul and Rhythm and Blues bands.

Old Town Tap

Contemporary, yet classic. Old Town Tap is a rustic pizzeria serving Italian fare and some of the best craft cocktails around. The easygoing vibe makes this the perfect spot for your summer or winter apres. The menu celebrates the Truckee-Tahoe community with local ingredients from the Tahoe Food Hub, spirits from Old Trestle Distillery, and local beers on tap. 

Pianeta

The perfect spot for a candlelit dinner with interior stone walls from the turn of the century, Pianeta offers a warm, intimate atmosphere and a menu inspired by the rich flavors of Northern Italy. Their homemade pasta will have you raving, especially when paired with one of their exceptional wines. Reservations are recommended as this cozy spot fills up fast.

Trokay

Upscale fine dining in the mountains? Absolutely, and you’ll find it at Trokay. Every item on the elegant menu will blow you away and the restaurant’s quiet, intimate vibe will have you coming back for more. Head here to treat yourself to a memorable culinary experience that many have described as on par with a Michelin-rated restaurant. 
5050 Brewing Co.

5050 Brewing Co.

This laidback microbrewery and pub offers juicy burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and refreshing craft beer on tap. Just minutes from downtown Truckee, you'll find 5050 Brewing Co. in the heart of The Rock. Sit outside in their large, relaxing patio and be sure to ask about the Eclipse, an Imperial Stout aged in whiskey and spirit barrels for 3-12 months.

RMU Truckee

Ski culture meets mountain cuisine at RMU Truckee, a new restaurant and bar in one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings in town, The Krueger/White House. Built in 1873 by Mr. Krueger and 14 Austrian craftsmen, this Victorian Style building has transformed into a hub of Truckee's mountain culture, offering craft cocktails, food, live music, skis and equipment.

Stella at Gravity Haus Sports Hotel

Stella retains the cozy charm of its open kitchen and inviting garden patio that captured your heart, but now it boasts an entirely revamped menu fueled by local California farms. Indulge in highlights such as the Black Cod from California's coast served with cabbage in a yuzu beurre blanc, or savor the wood-fire braised short ribs glazed with tamarind guajillo pepper, accompanied by locally sourced white cheddar grits milled on-site at an Auburn farm.

Mountain Lotus Provisions Vegan Monday Take-Out

Whether you're a vegan or a non-vegan, mark your calendar for Mondays at the new Mountain Lotus Cafe. Every week, chef Raymond Applegate unveils a new set of dishes inspired by the “Blue Zones” of the Pacific Rim region and their distinct flavors, announced online every Monday. The Monday Supper Club offering comprises a three-course vegan dinner. Past weeks have featured dishes from Macau, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Tangerine Bistro in Downtown Truckee

Another addition to the restaurant portfolio is a classic French bistro you’d find in the bustling metropolitan districts of New York or Paris. Enter Tangerine Bistro, named after the iconic Led Zeppelin song, and discover a menu as remarkable as its namesake. Indulge in traditional French dishes with a distinct Truckee twist, such as the duck foie gras pâté paired with blackberry jam.

Rakken Ramen in Truckee Raley’s Shopping Center

What began in 2011 as a humble 4-seater establishment in Nishiazabu, Tokyo, is now one of Truckee's latest dining hotspots. Located in the same shopping center as Raley’s O-N-E Market, Rakkan Ramen at its core is Japanese soul food. The menu features five distinct ramen bases: AMBER (soy sauce base), PEARL (salt base), GARNET (miso base), SPICY GARNET (spicy miso base), and QUARTZ (creamy base).

Vous at Northstar California Resort

Craving a little extra après-ski indulgence? Look no further than "Vous," the newly opened cafe/bar in Northstar Village that made its debut on Friday, November 17th. Kickstart your day with a swift caffeine boost, courtesy of coffee concoctions featuring Lavazza's organic blend. Treat your taste buds to delectable pastries that satisfy your sweet tooth.Then after a day of conquering powder, finish it with an afternoon après experience.

Wild Pine Kitchen at Northstar California Resort

Build up your appetite at the Northstar California Resort's ice rink, and afterward, make a pitstop at a Village restaurant that opened at the end of last winter’s ski season - The Wild Pine Kitchen. This family-friendly restaurant is a haven for hearty meals and shared plates, featuring an array of proteins straight from their rotisserie oven. Wild Pine Kitchen also boasts an extensive beverage selection with a dedicated full page for wine, beer, and signature cocktails.
