Lupine, Larkspur, Mules Ear, Fleabane... do you know your wildflowers? Spring is a great time to look for Sierra Nevada flowers when the snow melts from lower elevations. Flowers are fragile! Stay on official trails to avoid trampling them, and take only pictures.
Spring snow melt fills up our creeks and streams, which means that waterfalls are gushing! The rushing water and cascading falls are breathtaking, but powerful. If you plan to hike to a waterfall, please use caution. Stay on the trail and do not climb on or near the falls.
There’s a reason Truckee-Tahoe is known as the “Spring Skiing Capital of America” - sun and snow! For many locals and visitors alike, this is the best time to hit the slopes. Mornings begin with cool temps and fast groomers, giving way to warm, sunny afternoons and the sought after “spring corn” snow.
