The Sustainable Truckee Eco/Green Lodging Standards were developed by Visit Truckee-Tahoe with research and input from the Sierra Business Council and members of the Truckee lodging community. The program was modeled after Surfrider Foundation’s Ocean Friendly Restaurants, and is intended to recognize the sustainability efforts being made by Truckee owners and hosts at their vacation homes.
The Eco/Green Lodging Standards recognizes properties that meet criteria in four categories: Energy, Waste & Supplies, Water, and Transportation. Required guest communications are also a component of the program.
As of October 2023, the California Green Business Network (CAGBN) does not offer certification for Short-Term Rentals (STRs). While VTT’s Eco/Green Lodging Standards are not designed as replacement to CAGBN certification, they are intended to provide an entry-level stepping stone that may encourage lodging properties to continue making progress towards more ambitious sustainability certifications, such as a CAGBN certification if made available in the future.
