New in Truckee for 2026: Where to Eat, Stay and Explore
If it’s been a minute since your last trip to Truckee, you’ve got some catching up to do.
From a reimagined gathering spot to new places to eat, shop, and recharge, there’s a fresh wave of energy around town right now. The best part? You can experience all of it on your next visit.
A New Go-To Spot: The Old Lumberyard
If you only check out one “new” thing in Truckee, make it The Old Lumberyard.
This reimagined historic space has quickly turned into a go-to hangout, with DOPO serving up wood-fired pizza and pasta, FiftyFifty pouring local brews, and Alpenswing bringing indoor golf and axe throwing into the mix.
LIV Studio has also moved into the space, adding a local-favorite workout spot to the lineup. So whether you’re grabbing dinner, meeting friends for a drink, or sneaking in a class, it all kind of happens here.
It’s casual, social, and easy to spend way more time than you planned.
Where to Eat
Truckee’s food scene keeps getting better, and a couple newer spots are worth adding to your list.
MASA Kitchen brings a creative twist to a familiar space, pairing sourdough pizza with Southern Mexican–inspired tapas and house-made tortillas. It’s the kind of place where you order a little of everything and stay awhile.
Matices is one of the most anticipated openings in downtown, blending Spanish, French, and Japanese influences into something that feels both elevated and approachable.
And while it’s currently closed for the season as Sugar Bowl installs its new gondola, Yarrow is still worth a mention. Led by acclaimed chef Traci Des Jardins, the restaurant brought a more elevated dining experience to Donner Summit, with modern California cuisine, a gondola-in arrival, and a cocktail menu inspired by Sierra flora. Consider it one to keep on your list for next season.
Recharge, Truckee Style
After a day outside, there are more ways than ever to reset.
Après Club brings Lagree fitness to town, offering a low-impact, high-burn workout if you’re feeling ambitious.
For something a little more recovery-focused, Vida Brillo offers red light therapy and halotherapy right in downtown, an easy add-on after a long hike or ski day.
Martis Valley Massage & Spa has also expanded, now offering a full thermal experience with a hot tub, cold plunge, infrared sauna, and a calm, lounge-style space to unwind. It’s an especially great option for groups, whether you’re planning a girls’ getaway, bachelorette weekend, or just a little post-adventure recovery with friends.
New Finds Around Town
Downtown Truckee is always fun to wander, and a few newer spots make it even better.
Miro Miro is a beautifully curated boutique with a mix of clothing, accessories, and home goods you won’t see everywhere else.
Truckee Teas and The Slime Kitchen is exactly what it sounds like, in the best way. Tea for you, hands-on fun for the kids, and somehow everyone leaves happy.
More Than Just a Place to Visit
Truckee keeps evolving, not just with new businesses, but with spaces that bring people together.
Chabad of Truckee is a newer addition to the community, creating a welcoming space for Jewish life, connection, and events for both residents and visitors. It’s another example of how Truckee continues to grow while staying grounded in community.
Where to Stay
New places to stay are making it even easier to turn a quick trip into something longer.
Martis Valley Lodge brings a refreshed boutique feel in a super convenient location just outside downtown.
The Guesthouse Lake Tahoe offers a more elevated, private-home-style experience, with a dedicated team that helps make your stay feel effortless from start to finish.
And if you’re already thinking about your next trip, there are more design-forward hotels in the works.
What’s Next
There’s more on the way, too.
The KidZone Museum is breaking ground on a new permanent home, and plans for a new library are in the works, adding even more community-centered spaces to town.
So yeah, Truckee’s having a moment. Not a flashy, big-city kind of moment, just a really good, come-see-for-yourself kind of one.
