Visit Truckee-Tahoe Executive Director Jackie Calvert recently presented to Truckee Town Council, sharing updated data on tourism’s economic contribution, resident sentiment, and the need for sustainable funding to manage visitation effectively.

Key takeaways included:

  • Visitors contributed $13.7 million in local taxes in 2025. Without that revenue, each Truckee household would need to pay about $2,078 more per year to maintain current services.
  • Tourism supported approximately 1,670 jobs and generated $63.7 million in local earnings in 2024, along with $7.4 million in TOT, Truckee’s third-largest revenue source.
  • Resident sentiment reflects both benefit and strain: 87% agree tourism helps the local economy, while 81% say quality of life worsens during peak periods. VTT continues focusing efforts on shoulder seasons to reduce peak impacts.
  • Jackie also addressed the Truckee Tourism Business Improvement District (TTBID) and the importance of restoring the assessment to 2% to strengthen stewardship, visitor education, shoulder-season support, and midweek demand strategies.
