Cloud Sushi

Tucked away across the tracks in a nondescript bright yellow wooden building you’ll find one of the most hidden secrets in Truckee - Cloud Sushi. Opened in June 2022, once a week, locals and visitors in the know order their food online to pick up at their designated time. Josh Brown and his sous chefs, JT Busby and Brian Robinson, have been rolling sushi for more than 15 years. Using their experience they’ve designed their dishes to take home so you can enjoy it. Ensuring that it tastes like it just came off the sushi bar. What you’ll come to find isn’t just good sushi but maybe some of the best you’ve ever had.

Buoy & Trap Seafood

For those homesick for Northeastern style or just good ole fashioned premium quality seafood done right. Owned and operated by a fifth generation native Rhode Islander, Zack Duksta’s been shucking oysters and grilling striped bass with his dad in the kitchen since he was a kid. Using decades of experience and knowledge, he’s bringing the best product available directly to you at Buoy & Trap Seafood which opened in February 2023. Pick up a dozen oysters or a few salmon filets to grill at home, pulled right from the water and flown in immediately. Or post yourself up on a stool inside and just enjoy a Maine or Connecticut-style lobster roll, Poke Roll or a daily special that he created on what he’s got.

Truckee Brewing Company

Something a bit beyond your typical summer apres drink or post ski day libation. While the brewery has been open since 2018, the 2nd location near Raleys One Market in Truckee featuring a restaurant and a full bar opened its doors in the summer of 2022. Their restaurant features more than 16 of their brewed in-house beers on tap, a menu with pizza, tacos, and salads. You’ll find plenty of seating indoors. And don’t miss the outdoor patio with great views of Castle Peak from a restaurant in Truckee.

Cornerstone Kitchen & Bakery

A taste of France with a sprinkling of Truckee charm to start the day off right. The Cornerstone Bakery has been around for years providing the community with fresh homemade pastries, baked goods, and delectable treats. There was a call for more but it wasn’t until the building next door became available in 2022 that they could expand their business to include breakfast and lunch. Using the baked goods from Cornerstone Bakery throughout the menu, you’ll find everything from a lighthearted breakfast to a healthy fuel-up for a day of adventure. For adventurous palates, you’ll find international flavors such as French originated croquettes and Turkish Eggs. And standard traditional fare with a twist such as an Egg Salad Sandwich.

Great Gold

An integration between what you’d expect to see in the mountains and classic Italian cuisine. Great Gold opened its doors in Truckee in 2021, applying California cuisine to Italian dishes. The restaurant focuses on local and in season ingredients. Highlights of the menu are pasta made in house daily and dishes like Cavatelli cauliflower cacio e pepe, hand cut pappardelle with prosciutto Bolognese. It also offers Roman style pizza cooked in a 1,000-degree Marra Forni pizza oven.

Popular menu items include chicken tikka masala, Rogan Josh lamb curry, and vegetarian options like paneer tikka masala or Bengan bertha, an eggplant dish. Formerly Taste of India, Mehfil Bistro opened its doors in 2021.

Alex Silgalis

Born and raised as a flat lander in Chicagoland, Alex spent his summers working to save up for a season pass to the local hill along with any trips out West or beyond he could squeeze in. It was during his travels, both as a kid & an adult, Alex discovered his inspiration for Local Freshies® . His idea was to create the No. 1 Web site providing the local scoop on where to eat, drink & play in mountain towns throughout North America. When he’s not writing and executing marketing strategies for small businesses & agencies, he’s in search of the deepest snow in the winter and tackiest dirt in the summer alongside the love of his life and business partner, Jaime Pirozzi.
