Unlike most mountain towns, Truckee has incredible access to fresh local produce. Its unique geographic location makes it a gateway to both outdoor mountain recreation and the doorstep of America’s heartland for agriculture. This gives you the unique opportunity to get fresh organic food, produce, meats, and fish locally while playing in the mountains. From the Truckee Farmers Market to harvest-to-order, here's how to get the freshest groceries when you’re staying in town in any season.

Summer Is The ‘Ripe’ Time

Peruse the local and sustainable family farm offerings in person. Starting in mid-May through mid-October, the Truckee Farmers Market is held on Tuesdays 8am - 1pm at the Truckee River Regional Park. They’ve screened and picked each vendor to provide a diverse selection of farms, nurseries, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, and specialty food producers.

Tahoe Food Hub supplies Truckee-Tahoe with local produce and grocery staples, like Sierra Bakehouse goods.

Get Fresh In Any Season

Even if you can’t make it to Truckee’s outdoor farmers market or you’re visiting out of season, the Tahoe Food Hub is here for your local fresh produce needs. From long term planners to last minute shoppers, they give you multiple ways to access sustainably grown food from over 50 family farms within 150-miles of Truckee. To learn more about your options to pick from, visit Truckee’s groceries, catering, and markets homepage.

The Farmacy

Brick and mortar location for last minute shoppers. In the theme of “food is medicine”, the Farmacy is the Tahoe Food Hub’s physical location when you need a pick-me-up for your immune system with healthy ingredients. Located next to the Truckee Airport, you’ll find seasonal, sustainably-grown fruits and veggies from local farms to choose from. They’re open five days a week - Monday through Friday.

Online - The Harvest Box

A perfect option for a long weekend or week long getaway at a cabin. Tahoe Food Hub’s online option “Harvest to Order” has the farmers pick the produce when you order it ensuring you get the peak freshness. You’ll find fruits, veggies, pastured meats, eggs, and even specialty products such as pasta and preserves available to choose from. Online shopping is ‘open’ Monday at 5pm until midnight on Wednesday. You then can pick up your order on Thursday or Friday from the Tahoe Food Hub Warehouse near Raley’s O-N-E Market off of Soaring Way.

The “OG” To Fresh Food

Before organic produce and healthy living were part of a mainstream diet. Back when locally owned New Moon Natural Foods started in the mid-70’s, eating healthy natural food was in its infancy but has now has become the beating soul of the vibrant Truckee-Tahoe community. On Donner Pass Road, New Moon Natural Foods  supplies the community with a well curated selection of nutritious, fresh, locally sourced food for all diets and lifestyles including scrumptious vegan to-go options in their Crescent Cafe.

It was during his travels, both as a kid & an adult, Alex discovered his inspiration for Local Freshies® . His idea was to create the No. 1 Web site providing the local scoop on where to eat, drink & play in mountain towns throughout North America. When he’s not writing and executing marketing strategies for small businesses & agencies, he’s in search of the deepest snow in the winter and tackiest dirt in the summer alongside the love of his life and business partner, Jaime Pirozzi.
